We are looking for a Security Designer!

About the Opportunity
Designs security systems including CCTV, Access Control, Intercoms, Door locking and hardware systems, intrusion detection, control room ergonomic and 3D planning, surveys of existing sites and change management. This job also involves designing and implementing Data Networks and Shared service smart building platforms, therefore a working knowledge of BAS and building integration systems is required.
Responsibilities
Business Development
- Work to develop strong, ongoing relationships with clients, building operators, contractors and other members of the Design Team.
- Create Proposals and Fee Letters as requested by the Principal.
General Management
- Keep Group Lead apprised of activities.
- Lead by example, following proper procedures.
- Participate in training courses and show initiative for professional development.
- Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff.
- Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time.
Production
- Attend coordination meetings.
- Be a technical resource for other Group Members, as well as the Firm as a whole.
- Check drawings for quality control using checklist.
- Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards.
- Coordinate work with other disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, and Communications.
- Create working drawings with AutoCAD or mark-up drawings.
- Design Systems in accordance with OBC, ASIS, BICSI and/or other relevant Codes and Standards.
- Keep up to date on all aspects of Security devices including attending local trade shows, ASIS chapter meetings, in-house lunch & learns and independent study.
- Keep up-to-date on all low-voltage systems in modern buildings for both new construction and renovations.
- Prepare drawings and specifications for Security systems as is necessary to prepare engineering documents.
- Write design briefs and Outline specifications independently for any Security system project type.
- Layout security devices on drawings.
- Maintain design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company Project Management Standards. Monitor CAD production.
- Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions.
- Prepare CCN and SI as required.
- Prepare detailed control and equipment room layouts including sections.
- Prepare detailed riser diagrams.
- Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required during construction.
- Report to Group Lead any project related quality, speed or scheduling issue.
- Review and comment on shop drawing submittals.
- Size distribution, risers, entrance cables and infrastructure as required.
- Track out of scope work requests and promptly prepare ASR's as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to think independently
- Formal training in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) desirable
- At least 3 years of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry or equivalent experience at a large Security industry integrator/contractor
- Revit skills a definite asset.
- Science, IT, Engineering, Electronics, or Telecommunications Degree
- Experience with reading and coordinating Telecommunications, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
- Must have own car and clean driving license and a Canadian passport. Dual Citizen with USA a definite asset.
- Familiar with OBC, BICSI, ASIS and other relevant Codes and Standards
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Experience with Windows and general computer skills. Candidate must have strong Word and Excel skills
- Foreign and domestic travel is required for up to 7 days at a time, while most trips are 2-3 days in duration. Travel will typically not occupy more than 25% of the employees time.
