Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Standards, the Special Advisor, Indigenous Technical Advisory Group
(ITAG) provides oversight and facilitation of the planning, coordination and implementation of ITAG. Following the establishment of ITAG, the Special Advisor will be tasked with presiding over its meetings.
This is a temporary, part-time, 10-15 hours a week position with the potential to become permanent, contingent upon the successful delivery and evaluation of the proof of concept phase.

The purpose of this project is to establish an ITAG that will support Indigenous public sector entities in gaining access to standardized non-authoritative guidance and reporting materials that are currently available to non-Indigenous federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments.

Accountabilities

  • Develop a comprehensive Project Plan that outlines key deliverables, budgets, milestones and other actionable items necessary for establishing ITAG. Where changes in the Project Plan have been identified, the Project Plan is updated and shared with the FMB accordingly.
  • Provide biweekly status updates, including any supporting materials (i.e. slide decks, memos, or any other relevant documentation) as required.
  • Conduct outreach to identify and enroll ITAG members, which may include travel for in-person meetings.
  • Collaborate with accounting firms and First Nation representatives to identify and assess emerging issues relevant to ITAG.
  • Promote ITAG and its benefits through targeted outreach and advertising efforts.
  • Create content and provide structure for an ITAG webpage.
  • Support the planning and execution of the inaugural ITAG meeting.
  • Assume responsibility for leading ITAG meetings upon its establishment and ensure the ITAG operates in accordance with its Terms of Reference.
  • Prepare a Final Report summarizing ITAGs overall achievements at the conclusion of the engagement.

Support other tasks and projects as directed.
Qualifications

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Minimum seven years of experience in a professional services firm in a client service role, preferably within an assurance (audit) practice.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards
    • Canadian Auditing Standards
  • Willingness toparticipate in ongoing education and training for the role including Indigenous studies.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience working with First Nations and Indigenous governments and organizations.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be fluent in English (spoken and written), French language is considered an asset.
  • A professional project management designation (PMP) is an asset.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Equivalent or relevant education and/or experience may be considered.

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in West Vancouver, BC, Winnipeg, MB, Montreal, QC or Ottawa, ON.
  • Remote work may be considered.
  • Will require national travel.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required occasionally.
