The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) is a fierce and creative environmental charity based in Mi'kma'ki/Nova Scotia. Since 1971, we have proudly tackled critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. Grounded in community, we act as a watchdog, convenor, mobilizer and incubator, taking a holistic approach to the environment and the creation of a just and vibrant world.

ABOUT YOU
You are passionate about communications, writing and considered an engaging content creator for diverse audiences across various platforms including website, email, social media and traditional media. You have experience with website management, and contact management systems. You are a self-starter and a strong writer eager to put your skills to use in the non-profit world. You thrive working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are tech savvy, organized and detail-oriented with an eye for editing.
WHAT YOU BRING
Experience in creative writing and story-telling with the ability to generate actionable content for a range of medium including press releases, newsletters, social media, email and web content
Demonstrated experience simplifying complex ideas for a range of audiences
Familiarity with web design and maintenance
Keen interest in emerging trends in communications
Ability to respond quickly to developing situations, effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks
An interest in social and environmental change
Tech savvy with experience using Drupal, Wordpress or other Content Management Systems
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL HOLD
Build, manage and update website content
Create and schedule email communications including the EAC's bi-weekly Enewsletter
Help with creating, editing, compilation and distribution of Ecology & Action Magazine
Assist with writing, editing and distributing press releases and responding to media requests
Assist with the implementation of individual team communications plans and campaigns
Ensure brand consistency across public-facing channels.
Basic graphic design tasks with Canva
WHAT YOU NEED
Experience using Drupal, WordPress or comparable Content Management System; CiviCRM or other CRM databases; Canva, InDesign and Photoshop
Experience with website management
Proven writing skills with solid training in communications and writing, such as a degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or a related field
Experience in creative writing and story-telling with an ability to simplify complex ideas and create actionable content for a range of audiences
Strong organizational skills with an eye for editing and details
Experience implementing communications plans, specifically by developing written and digital assets that help meet the goals of a campaign
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
One or more years of professional experience in a related field
Understanding of environmental issues in Miꞌkmaꞌki/Nova Scotia
Other skills and experience considered an asset:
Project management experience
Experience with the creation and publication of print and online magazines
Experience working with volunteers
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-time position with flexible hours within a 4-day work week, totaling 30 hours/week. Monday-to-Thursday schedule, with some exceptions. Learn more about our 4-day work week here.
Hybrid work environment requiring 1-2 days a week at our office in Halifax's North End.
Hourly wage of $28/hour.
3 weeks paid vacation per year (pro-rated for the 4-day work week), 1 week of paid time off during the winter office closure in December, 12 paid holidays (12 per year) and paid wellness days (10 per year)
