Program Overview
The JVS Integrated Employment Services (IES), funded by MLITSD and managed by WCG, provides employment services to unemployed individuals of all ages, financial backgrounds and skills to help them gain and retain employment within their field or a related field. To achieve its goal, the program provides a range of services including one-on-one employment counselling, employment workshops, job development/placement services and job retention supports. In addition, IES collaborates with other programs to ensure efficient and smooth operations through streamlining client referrals to appropriate services.
Newcomer Youth Initiatives offer career exploration, mentorship, a supportive network and foster community engagement for newcomer youth from northern North York and Southern York Region community. Through the mix of individual and group activities newcomer youth are exposed to positive role models, themed workshops, presentations and social activities as developed by JVS Toronto in collaboration with the local community partners and the Jewish community organizations.
We're looking for someone who will:
• Provide individual employment counselling, complete assessments, and develop service plans aligned with employment goals.
• Deliver outcome-focused case management using knowledge of labour market trends and community resources.
• Support clients in job search activities including resume development, interview preparation, and job maintenance. Coordinate with the Job Development team to support client placements and job retention.
• Assess and process Better Jobs Ontario applications, including eligibility and financial feasibility.
• Conduct outreach to local community partners to recruit eligible clients and manage a high volume of youth intakes and cases.
• Plan and implement programming to empower newcomer and Jewish youth in career and education decision-making.
• Facilitate program orientations for youth and parents; organize events and guest speakers both in-person and online.
• Strengthen ties with the Jewish community by connecting youth to programs at the SRC, JIAS, JRoots, JProjects, and similar organizations.
• Recruit and train mentors; coordinate and lead group and individual mentoring sessions while building connections with local ethnic communities to support client engagement and program reach.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Social Services or Education with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of experience in community work. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency
• Effective organizational and time management skills; demonstrated ability to meet targets and deadlines
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to write reports
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively deal with a wide range of individuals and personalities, including: community professionals, youth and families, colleagues, staff, volunteers, and employers
• Strong facilitation skills; ability to build and lead workshops both in person and online
• Demonstrated understanding of the specific needs of newcomer youth
• Knowledge of the ethnic communities of the respective neighborhoods
• Knowledge and ability to support programming in the Jewish community
• Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
• A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position
Our ideal candidate will also have:
• Employment Ontario knowledge and exposure
• Knowledge of Hebrew and one or more major languages of the communities we serve
