About the Role:
We are currently seeking an early-career creative and strategic Graphic Designer to join our team as a Design Intern.
The ideal candidate is an early career designer who is drawn to doing meaningful work in the healthcare industry. They demonstrate excellence in the foundational skills of graphic design to present information clearly and within an easy-to-understand story format. The candidate has a keen interest in information visualization to bring social science ideas to life in striking visual communications. This role is a great fit for someone who cherishes creative and strategic thinking and who thrives on the kind of camaraderie that emerges when talented, good-hearted people join forces with a sense of collective purpose.
This is a full-time, four-month, paid internship to start in August/September 2025, with the potential to transition into a permanent position. Application requirements are listed at the end of this description. Only applicants who submit all three application requirements will be considered.
While we always invite applicants to help expand our thinking about the role based on what they can bring to us, the core duties of a Design Intern at Throughline currently involve:
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the rest of the design team to support ongoing projects and contribute ideas throughout the design process.
- Work confidently in PowerPoint, Mural, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro), and other relevant tools.
- Develop and work within internal and client-branded PowerPoint templates.
- Maintain and organize a shared design assets and resource library.
- Be a brand standards champion: follow guidelines, enforce consistency, and guide team members to apply a cohesive and professional visual identity.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams by participating in meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Support a variety of project types, including debrief summary presentations, workshop materials, infographics, image sourcing and editing, and Mural templates.
- Be open to constructive feedback and apply suggestions to refine and improve your designs.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelors degree in Graphic Design (or equivalent in related field)
- Clear understanding of and consistently demonstrated use of graphic design principles, including grid systems, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast (accessible design) & balance, and typography (kerning, leading, orphans & widows, etc.)
- Comfortable designing in PowerPoint and in Adobe Suite programs
- Demonstrated understanding of storytelling through visual and graphic elements (in conjunction with text) to a specific audience
- Portfolio link demonstrating impressive typography, layout and communication fundamentals, information hierarchy, and requirements for both print and digital projects
- Definite plus if: experience with illustration, visual branding, video and motion graphics, and using digital whiteboard tools

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada. This is a fixed-term internship position. Throughline operates with a hybrid environment work model so employees will work onsite in Midtown Toronto (Yonge and St. Clair) and remotely. Please note that a requirement for this role is the ability to be in the Toronto office up to three days per week, as business needs require.
