Opportunity:
MHV is currently seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Transmission Team in Calgary. We offer a dynamic work environment with a highly experienced technical team, where you will be offered guidance and hands-on training and continuously challenged in all aspects of the engineering and design process.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design of overhead high-voltage transmission lines using applicable standards and engineering principles
- Review designs against applicable industry codes and standards as well as internal MHV standards.
- Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs
- Complete engineering calculations for transmission lines.
- Use a variety of tools and software in design such as PLS CADD, ETAP, CDEGS etc.
- Prepare estimates, material take offs, scopes of work, survey packages and design packages.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering reports.
- Prepare design packages for construction
- Conduct site visits for field reconnaissance during the project design phase and field inspections during the project construction phase
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering
- Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Alberta
- Ability to work in design teams and take the initiative to learn the position
- Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite and CAD drafting tool such as Microstation and AutoCAD.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on the job training
- Previous design experience with substation, transmission or distribution lines is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, CDEGS or PLS CADD software is considered an asset
- Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel for site visits
