The Opportunity:
We are currently looking for one (1) full-time Dockworker Lead Hand to join our fast-paced team at our Saskatoon, SK office. This role is responsible for:
Lead Hand:
- Lead and coordinate all dock operations to ensure efficient inbound and outbound logistics.
- Overseeing dock cleanliness, pre-staging freight for delivery runs, and ensuring seamless daily dock meetings.
- Create and manage driver runs, dispatch drivers, and maintain consistent communication to address issues and provide updates.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and carriers. Liaise to coordinate daily shipments, track loads, provide real-time updates, and resolve any issues related to delivery delays or security.
- Ensure the dock is a safe, compliant workplace by adhering to safety protocols and promoting a safety-conscious culture. Lead initiatives to improve safety and reduce operational risks.
- Provide exceptional customer service by delivering timely updates on shipments, addressing issues with urgency, and ensuring the seamless coordination of pickup and delivery appointments.
Dock Worker:
- Load, unload and move product and materials to and from trailers and containers onto dock
- Operate equipment such as forklift, clamp truck, dollies or hand trucks, etc.
- Inspect equipment prior to commencing shift and as required during shift
- Verify accuracy of product being received and shipped
- May be required to break down skids of product and build smaller orders for delivery to customer
- Ensure product is moved in a safe manner and reports any incidents to their supervisor or leadhand
- Complete various documents as required
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
What you need to be successful in the role:
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain & Logistics or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Dock Supervisor.
- Minimum of 3 years of warehouse management experience, including working with asset-based trucks and drivers.
- Minimum of 2 years forklift experience required
- Ability to lift up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs)
- Forklift certified
- Dangerous goods certified
- Clean criminal record check
- Flexibility to work any shift, weekends included. The SK branch's hours of operation are Monday – Friday 7:00am – 5:00pm with the occasional weekends.
- Experience in supervising teams, with strong leadership capabilities
- Knowledge of the transportation industry, including all modes of transportation (rail, road, air, ground expedites) within North America
- Familiarity with transportation management software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong understanding of inventory control procedures and warehouse management systems.
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Accuracy, dependability, and ability to safely operate dock
- Flexibility with workload and duties
- Positive and team-oriented attitude
- Ability to work independently
- Proven positive work ethic
