Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for advancing the organization's mission, strategic goals, financial sustainability, and overall operational effectiveness. This leader will inspire and guide a talented team while strengthening relationships with donors, funders, partners, and the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement the organization's strategic plan and annual operating goals
  • Ensure strong financial stewardship through sound budgeting, planning, and risk management
  • Oversee all programs and services to ensure high-quality, client-centered outcomes
  • Drive fundraising and development efforts to secure charitable donations and grants
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure good governance and organizational alignment
  • Foster a workplace culture built on respect, inclusion, performance, and accountability
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson, representing Port Cares to stakeholders, media, funders, and community partners

What We're Looking For...

Skills & Qualifications:

  • University degree in Social Services, Business, Finance, or a related field (Master's Degree considered an asset)
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience in the nonprofit or public sector
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting and financial planning
  • Demonstrated expertise in grant and RFP (Request for Proposal) research, writing, and submission, with a strong track record of securing funding
  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance, compliance, and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor relations, and community engagement
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills
  • Experience working directly with a Board of Directors
  • Familiarity with relevant provincial and federal legislation (e.g., employment standards, charitable regulations)
  • Established network within Niagara Region or similar community setting
