$19.39 to $21.04 per hour
Qualifications- Some High school.
- Current certification in National Lifeguard Service.
- Standard First Aid, CPR “C” with AED.
- HIGH FIVE ®: Principles of Healthy Child Development
- Lifesaving Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor qualifications preferred.
- Experience as a Lifeguard preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of how to operate safety equipment (e.g. AED, Spinal Board) preferred.
- Current working knowledge of Ontario Health Regulations related to pool operations as well as Ministry of Labour Standards preferred.
- Verbal communication skills including courtesy and tact.
- Customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
- Alertness and dedicated surveillance.
- Ability to work on a team.
- Continuous standing and/or walking required.
- Indoor pool environment; exposure to pool chemicals and warm temperatures.
- Occasional heavy lifting/dragging.
- Emergency response.
- Perform lifeguard duties and supervise patrons/participants, ensuring that all facility rules are being adhered to while providing a safe, enjoyable environment.
- Maintain accurate bather load records.
- Ensure that all Health Regulations are obeyed regarding pool tests, patron numbers, etc.
- Be knowledgeable about and follow the policies and procedures in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
- Be knowledgeable about all Department of Parks Recreation and Culture and respond in a positive manner to questions and inquiries from the public.
- Advise the Supervisor, Aquatics or Manager, Recreation Culture and Events or Manager, Parks and Facilities respectively of any problems related to equipment, pool maintenance, programs or public inquiries.
- Maintain Aquatic qualifications as outlined below and participate in scheduled staff training sessions.
- Follow lifeguarding procedures at all times while on duty and maintain attentiveness to patrons, scanning the pool to ensure their safety.
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of pool facility as directed by the Supervisor, Aquatics or Manager, Recreation Culture and Events or Manager, Parks and Facilities
- Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public's perception of the Municipality.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Aquatics or designate.
