- Salary: $47,350-$48,500, commensurate with experience
- Terms: Full-Time, 12-month Contract role, On-Site
- Work Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 35 hours per week; Sunday 10:30 am – 5 pm; Monday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; Tuesday 8:30 am – 5 pm; Wednesday 8:30 – 5 pm; Thursday 8:30 – 4:30 pm

The New Toronto Street Food Bank Worker provides direct support to clients accessing Daily Bread's New Toronto Street Food Bank. This hands-on, front-line worker position will assist the Lead Food Bank Worker with the operations of the New Toronto Street Food Bank. There is also a strong component of volunteer and student training in this position that requires knowledge of social work principles, student evaluation, and excellent communication skills. Weekend work is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish an atmosphere of respect and dignity in all areas of the program that includes:
- Ensuring confidentiality of information
- Creating a warm, welcoming, and respectful environment for clients and volunteers
- Respecting the cultural, religious, and personal preferences and customs of clients
- Receive and store food and produce orders
- Inventory control following FIFO guidelines
- Stock products on shelves
- Fill in for volunteer positions of check-in, check-out, flow and stock when needed
- Provide excellent customer service and build professional relationships with clients
- Ensure efficient flow to service
- Maintain up-to-date standards in safe food handling and food safety recalls
- Maintain cleaning of food bank space, cleaning schedules and standards for a safe food bank environment
- Direct clients to Information & Referral Services
- Assist with new client registrations.
- Setup soup and coffee stations
- Make sandwiches, heat up soup and make coffee for food bank clients.
- Package meals from the kitchen for food bank clients
- Set up lunch for staff and volunteers on weekends.
- Set up dining area for community meal program.
- Train volunteers on routine tasks
- Delegate tasks to volunteers
- Train volunteers on health and safety guidelines for working in warehouse conditions
- Assign and train volunteers on appropriate volunteer position (check-in, check-out, stock and flow)
- Model excellent customer service skills for volunteers and students
- Maintain open communication with volunteers through various media outlets
- Complete draft student evaluations for submission to Food Bank Assistant Manager
- Volunteer and student check-in (weekends)
- Inform Lead Food Bank Worker of client and volunteer feedback
- Customer service experience in a fast-paced environment
- Education in crisis intervention, verbal de-escalation, or conflict management an asset
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
- Food service, retail, or warehouse experiences are assets.
- Experience working in a food bank, drop-in or social service program is an asset.
- Lived experience as an individual who lives or has lived on a low income.
- Lived experience as a member of an equity-seeking group is an asset.
- Fluency in more than one language is an asset.
- Safe food handling certification is an asset (employer will train if required)
- Commitment to working for and with low-income people.

Daily Bread's New Toronto Street Food Bank exists within a warehouse where heavy machinery is used, temperature fluctuates depending on the season and high noise levels are present. This position requires a lot of physical activity, walking and standing for long periods. This position requires the lifting of boxes up to 50 lbs.
