The Information Communication and Technology Council (ICTC) is seeking a curious and motivated co-op student to join its Research and Policy Team for a three-and-a-half-month co-op placement. The co-op student would support ongoing ICTC research projects within the research and policy department related to Canadas digital economy, including digital transformation in Canadas advanced manufacturing sector and measuring the progress of Canadian cities towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Interested candidates should be interested in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research as well as Canadian public policy as it relates to digital technology.
What You Will Do
Assist ICTC researchers in carrying out qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research on digital economy topics, including digital transformation in advanced manufacturing and Canadian municipalities progress towards meeting SDGs.
Duties
- Conducting literature reviews and secondary research
- Assisting in gathering quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, interviews, focus groups or other methods.
- Creating tools for analysis (e.g., interview and survey codebooks) as a part of a team
- Analyzing primary and secondary data
- Supporting primary data cleaning and coding using software such as NVivo
- Carrying out background research in preparation for focus groups and roundtables
- Assisting with external stakeholder outreach
- Participating in project meetings, contributing to project planning, and supporting administrative tasks as needed.
- Writing research reports or other public-facing documents
What You Bring to This Position:
- Eligible candidates can be from a variety of educational backgrounds, but this co-op/internship opportunity may be of the most relevance to students from the social sciences, humanities, and business disciplines. Students pursuing post-graduate degrees (masters, etc.) in fields such as public policy, business, economics, and political science may be especially strong candidates for this position.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights;

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to engage effectively at all organizational levels;
- Intellectual flexibility to participate in a wide variety of digital economy research topics
- Prior internship or co-op experience working in a research environment, such as a university or public policy think tank, would be of great benefit
