Position Summary:We are seeking a Junior Laboratory Technician to contribute to the evaluation and optimization of E3 Lithiums Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) and downstream processes. This is an exciting opportunity to work in E3 Lithiums lab based in Calgary with a broad team of engineers, chemists, and certified technologists. The ideal candidate will be involved in process evaluation and optimization and supporting technology development initiatives focused on the extraction and refinement of lithium streams in a laboratory- based testing environment.

The role will require the Junior Laboratory Technician to:

  • Executing test protocols with precision and rigor.
  • Sample preparation and filtration for ICP-OES Analysis
  • Operation of ICP-OES including calibration and preventative maintenance
  • Follow meticulous QA/QC procedures including calibration verification, and monitoring of internal standard performance.
  • Analysis of pH, Conductivity, TDS, and bromide analysis using benchtop multi-meter.
  • Analysis of chloride, Li2CO3 purity and sulfate analysis using an auto-titrator apparatus.
  • Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment (manual and automated equipment)
  • Prepare samples for shipping/distribution to assigned destinations.
  • Work safely with equipment and chemical products and maintain all work areas in a safe, organized, and clean condition.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety and workplace hazard materials information systems regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining high standard quality.
  • Work independently and as part of team.
  • Keep organized notes and documentation of all lab work and assess results.

Education and Characteristics:The successful candidate will possess, as a minimum:

  • Chemical Lab Technician Diploma or BSc Chemistry
  • Background in Analytical Chemistry
  • 3 years experience in a lab setting with research and/or process development experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills,
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Growth Mindset
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative, team driven work structure.
  • Personable and able to build strong relationships, ability to communicate information effectively across business units.
  • A self-motivated worker with the ability to work independently, but also on collaborative and team-based assignments.
