We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Calgary team. The successful candidate will lead the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for various construction and renovation projects, provide mentorship to junior staff, and support project managers in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead the detailed design of projects of varying scope and delegate tasks to supporting team members.
Supervise and mentor mechanical designers and engineers at various levels.
Provide technical support to clients, sub-consultants, and internal teams.
Review and approve the work of junior and intermediate designers and engineers prior to submission to project leadership.
Attend project meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
Conduct site reviews and demonstrate a solid understanding of construction processes.
Prepare schematic design reports and design development documentation.
Evaluate client specifications to determine the most cost-effective and appropriate mechanical design solutions.
Select HVAC and plumbing equipment in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturers.
Produce construction drawings and mechanical specifications (book or drawing-based).
Conduct peer reviews of designs and documents prepared by other team members.
Coordinate mechanical design with other building disciplines (e.g., structural, electrical, architectural).
Estimate project hours and communicate staffing needs to project managers to meet deadlines.
Identify changes in project scope and communicate additional service requirements to project managers.
Support contract administration tasks including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and design changes.
Continuously improve workflows and design standards to meet high-quality and timeline objectives.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 510 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the applicable jurisdiction.
In-depth knowledge of building systems (architectural, structural, civil, electrical, fire protection) and how they interface with mechanical systems.
Strong working knowledge of local building and plumbing codes and related industry standards.
Proficient in design and drafting tools including Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
Understanding of project financials including budgets, WIP (Work in Progress), and cost tracking.
Proven ability to schedule, mentor, and manage project teams (13 people) across multiple simultaneous projects.
