Senior Accountant – Public Accounting (Hybrid – Waterloo Region)

Our client, a long-established and respected public accounting firm in the Waterloo Region, is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing team. With over three decades of service to a diverse client base, this firm is known for its professional yet personable approach and offers a strong culture of collaboration, flexibility, and continuous development.

This role is ideal for an experienced public accounting professional who enjoys both client-facing work and mentoring junior team members. A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements for compilation, review, and audit engagements across corporate, not-for-profit, and social housing sectors

  • Prepare personal, corporate, partnership, charity, and other compliance filings

  • Supervise, coach, and review the work of junior staff accountants

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and internal team members

  • Participate in engagement planning and wrap-up discussions

  • Manage time budgets, track engagement progress, and meet reporting deadlines

  • Identify accounting or reporting issues and provide clear, professional solutions

  • Other related duties as required in a public practice environment

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a public accounting firm

  • CPA designation is preferred but not required

  • Proficient knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Effective communicator with the ability to explain complex concepts

  • Proficient in CaseWare, CCH iFirm, and bookkeeping platforms such as QuickBooks, QBO, and Sage
