Field Assignment: Supporting field operations throughout Northern Alberta and Saskatchewan.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer - Field Polymer EOR Support with over 10 years of field-focused engineering and operational experience with at least 5 years focused on EOR polymer injection systems and polymer equipment.

This role is dedicated to providing technical field support, quality oversight, and operational troubleshooting for existing polymer injection systems, including proprietary EOR and conformance control polymers, with involvement in facility design or new facility construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical field support for ongoing polymer injection and conformance polymer operations, ensuring system reliability and compliance with clients standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct weekly on-site service checks, including calibration of dry polymer feeders, mother and diluted solution viscosity measurements, verifications on nitrogen blanket system checks, and water quality sampling and testing (salinity, iron, H2S, oil content, etc.).
  • Support clients on the operation of EOR polymer injection systems and their associated field infrastructure.
  • Lead field-level QA/QC activities, including on-site hydration verification, filtration monitoring, and performance surveillance, aligning with API RP 63 guidelines and company-specific SOPs, validating compatibility with make-up water, source wells and produced water characteristics.
  • Perform weekly field surveillance and propose performance optimizations to clients, including advice on injection compliance issues (pressure anomalies, viscosity loss) and recommending adjustments to operational parameters.
  • Coordinate closely with operations teams to ensure uninterrupted polymer supply, injection consistency, and safe field operations.
  • Train clients field operators on safe polymer handling, on-site testing procedures (e.g., viscosity checks, salinity measurements), and system troubleshooting.
  • Comply with all applicable provincial and federal laws, including Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Clients safety programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering; P.Eng registration in Alberta (or eligibility) is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of mechanical or field engineering experience, with at least 5 years directly related to polymer flooding or chemical EOR field operations.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in polymer system start-up, hydration processes, field QA/QC testing, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of polymer rheology, emulsion behavior, and water testing compatibility (salinity, iron/H2S, hardness effects).
  • Experience with portable field laboratory kits (e.g., viscometers, pH meters, iron test kits) and on-site analytical techniques.
  • Proven record of providing field-level technical service support and acting as a technical liaison to ZL Calgary office for further reporting top clients engineering team in Calgary.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately document and relay field observations and results to ZL management in a timely and professional manner.
  • High standard of safety leadership, including familiarity with site access protocols, safety permit requirements, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, capable of preparing clear technical service reports and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision, as the role requires operating effectively in an independent work environment.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Location: Regular rotations to Alberta/Saskatchewan field sites.
  • Field Schedule:
    • Schedule 1 On-site rotation: up to 3 weeks on-site, followed by 1 week off, with daily shifts limited to 8 hours per day and subject to client accommodation approval. In practice, most field work will typically be around 1 week stay at a time.
    • Schedule 2 Weekly site visits: 5 days per week (MonFri), 8 hours per day, with hotel accommodation provided; weekends off.
  • Environment: Field-focused, service-oriented role emphasizing operational readiness and technical excellence.
