About Coast
Coast Mental Health (Coast) is one of the largest mental health non-profit societies in Canada and operates a large array of innovative housing and community-based rehabilitation services for people with a mental illness living in and around Vancouver. Coast operates in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia providing approximately 1000 people with supportive housing and 4000 clients living in the community with a wide variety of programs and services.
Coast fosters a client-driven, recovery-oriented environment that promotes restoring health, personal growth and a return to society for individuals with a mental illness through advocacy and providing direct programs and services.
Coast Mental Health's Young Adult Program offers a range of support services provided by Youth Workers (YW's) who work one-on-one with clients and in group settings to engage in recovery-based conversations, programs and goal setting.
The Young Adult Program operates out of Coast's Clubhouse. The Young Adult Program (age 19 to 30) focuses on creating a supportive community based on learning life skills, exploring recreation, and building a peer platform. Members work towards mental, physical, and emotional well-being through support and recovery in mental illness. The Program also prepares participants to discover appropriate and enjoyable future work and volunteer opportunities in their communities.
Many of the participants of the Youth Recovery program will also be members of the Young Adult Program and are encouraged to participate in regular programs and activities including meals, outings and on-site programs. The Youth Recovery program will consist of scheduled skills workshops, trauma informed therapy sessions and activities focusing on:
· Trauma Informed Therapy Sessions (EMDR Therapy)
· Building Cognitive Resiliency (CBT & DBT groups)
· Peer lead outings
· Indigenous Centered cultural programming & ceremonies
There will also be a micro grant budget for clients to access with administration, planning and reporting requirements. This financial component will be overseen by the program manager who will work with the Coast accounting team to ensure that there is robust tracking of the funds administered. These micro grants are intended to promote an initiative, idea or business plan by participants.
