Addiction and Mental Health Worker, Peer Support - Youth Housing
Direct Service - (OPSEU)
Part-time, Contract (up to 12 months)
London, Ontario (London Zone)

Peer Support is a powerful opportunity for a person living with a mental heath need and/or addiction challenge to connect with someone who has experienced a similar challenge and has gone through their own wellness and recovery journey.
In this role, you'll have a unique opportunity to use your lived experience to support youth in their recovery and vocational goals. Working from a peer support and psychosocial rehabilitation framework, you will blend your lived experience with recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practices to empower youth in achieving wellness and employment or educational outcomes.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated):
    • Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation
    • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated)
    • For internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
  • When you'll work -30 hours biweekly; Rotating days, afternoons and evenings, including weekends.
  • Your benefits will be - 9% in lieu of benefits
  • Your pension plan - Eligible for optional enrolment n the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

  • Use lived experience with mental health and/or addictions to support youth in developing personalized recovery and vocational goals.
  • Support youth to navigate and access community services, employment, education and volunteer opportunities.
  • Facilitate one-on-one peer support and group programming in areas such as life skills, wellness, recovery and employment readiness.
  • Provide trauma-informed, harm reduction-oriented and strengths based interventions.
  • Collaborate with employers, service providers, educators and other stakeholders to coordinate support for youth.
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person group workshops related to employment preparation, mental wellness, social skill building and peer connection.
  • Develop workshops, presentations and learning materials related to employment.
  • Act as a resource to other staff and community partners; seek out and listen to input form other staff and community partners.
  • Documentation related to clients
  • Ensure effective communication with Director, Managers, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning each participant's progress
  • Engage with the CMHA Peer Support Team as needed
  • Make decisions both independently and collaboratively

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

We require the following qualifications:

  • Lived experience of mental illness
  • Minimum of one year work or volunteer experience in vocational support.
  • Current Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle
  • Current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Ability to attend work regularly


We prefer the following qualifications:

  • Education or training in vocational rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Peer Support Models
  • Experience working residence setting
  • Experience working with youth
  • Health and safety knowledge
  • Crisis intervention and prevention
