Summary

St. Margarets School (SMS) is Western Canadas only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and WSNE Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 712). St. Margarets School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Programme, and we are a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

The Student Programs Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of programming for students Grade 7 to 12 that enrich their experience at SMS. A key focus includes ensuring that all program activities align with the WILD Boarding Curriculum and adhere to the Schools risk management requirements.

The Student Programs Coordinator works collaboratively with the Director of Boarding & Student Engagement, External Programs Manager, Director of Athletics, Director of Student Life, and the Boarding team to ensure continuity of service and support for students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of whole school programing in the areas of academic support, coo-curricular activities, community life skills, leadership and services aligned with the Boarding WILD curriculum.
  • Plan, implement and lead student programs and trips.
  • Create and maintain system to track student involvement and accountability and communicating with boarding team.
  • Ensure that program activities meet learning outcomes and supports the leadership development of students.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships and partnerships with community organizations and other schools.
  • Establish strong and positive relationships with students in accordance with the mission and values of the School.
  • Manage administrative functions, including budget and communications, as they relate to student programs.
  • Coordinate activities including identifying destinations, obtaining permits, scheduling, ensuring payments and arranging transportation.
  • Communicate protocols and ensure student safety is maintained in all activities.
  • Collect necessary health information and waivers.
  • Assists with planning and executing New Student Orientation.
  • Mentor student leaders with boarding community activity initiatives.
  • Maintain the Reach events calendar and manage student signups.
  • Supporting student co-curriculars with the coordination of transportation and meals.
  • Create the monthly boarding family newsletter.
  • Supporting the day-to-day boarding operations.
  • Attend all school events, staff meetings and professional development training
  • Attend boarding team meetings
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in relevant field, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in recreation or youth care.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring and implementing safety protocols

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to engage students.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Strong communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License (Class 4 preferred).
  • Actively support the vision, mission, and values of the school.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
