Our client, a reputable public accounting firm with a strong presence across Western Canada, is seeking an Agriculture Accountant to join their team. This role is focused on providing specialized accounting and advisory services to farming and agri-business clients. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of agricultural operations, strong technical accounting knowledge, and a client-first approach to building long-term relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for farm corporations, proprietorships, and partnerships.
- Provide advisory on cash flow management, tax planning, and succession strategies tailored to agri-businesses.
- Conduct on-site client visits to understand farm operations and provide tailored financial guidance.
- Assist clients with AgriStability, AgriInvest, and other government programs.
- Ensure compliance with CRA regulations, accounting standards, and firm policies.
- Support clients through year-end planning, budgeting, and operational analysis.
- Collaborate with partners and senior staff to deliver high-quality service and strengthen client relationships.
- Identify opportunities for improved efficiency and automation in client accounting processes.
Must-Have Qualifications
- CPA designation.
- 5+ years of public practice experience, ideally with agricultural clients.
- Strong working knowledge of tax rules and reporting requirements for farming operations.
- Familiarity with AgriStability, AgriInvest, and commodity-based reporting.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with strong client service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in CaseWare, TaxPrep, and Microsoft Excel.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Background in farm management, agri-finance, or related agricultural field.
- Experience working with cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero).
- Understanding of intergenerational farm transition planning and estate matters.
