What is the role?

The successful candidate will utilize industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads, and/or Civil 3D to contribute to a wide range of civil engineering projects. Our Civil Division offers diverse opportunities across multiple sectors, including Municipal, Water Resources, Land Development, Transit and Highways. In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare technical drawings for various projects, including Stormwater Management, Municipal Water Resources Systems (Watermains, Storm/Sanitary Sewers), Site Grading/Servicing, Drainage plans, Roads, Utilities, and Transit projects.
  • Provide design and CAD drafting support to engineers using tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads, or Civil 3D to develop design and contract drawings.
  • Track project progress and prepare regular status reports by analyzing relevant data.
  • Ensure quality control and assurance measures are followed throughout the project to maintain the accuracy of design elements, the presentation of technical details, the readability of drawings, and adherence to design standards.
  • Collaborate within the design team and assist Project Managers with scheduling and day-to-day project management tasks.
  • Manage the collection of as-built drawings and modelling data from clients and authorities.
  • Coordinate with other departments and sub-consultants to address technical aspects of projects under the direction of an engineer.
  • Participate in conducting site visits, undertaking research, data collection/field reviews, data summary, and documenting observations to prepare reports relating to the project site existing and new structures.
  • Continuously grow professional skills and knowledge through training sessions, seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends, software, and technology.
  • Assisting with managing other related assignments within the scope of the Civil Division.

The qualifications you need:

  • Graduate of a Civil Engineering Technology program.
  • Engineering internships or co-op terms are an asset.
  • Proficient in one or more industry-relevant software, such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads, and Civil 3D.
  • Strong knowledge of Transportation Engineering principles and Jurisdictional Design Guidelines (e.g., TAC, MTO, OPSD, AODA), as well as municipal design standards for development projects.
  • Strategic and process-oriented, able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A team player who can also work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Committed to continuous professional development and staying current with industry trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients, sub-consultants, and other departments.

The work arrangement:

LEA operates in a hybrid environment to ensure flexibility, safety, and the well-being of everyone. Periodic attendance at our Markham/Toronto office is expected to facilitate in-person learning of new tasks with experienced senior staff.
