Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily garden maintenance including weeding, deadheading, raking, and edging garden beds.
  • Plant and transplant annuals, perennials, shrubs, and small trees following site-specific designs and horticultural best practices.
  • Apply mulch evenly to specified depth and ensure clean, defined edges around beds.
  • Maintain lawns by mowing, trimming, and blowing off clippings, ensuring a neat and professional finish.
  • Identify and report signs of pests, plant disease, or nutrient deficiencies.
  • Prune shrubs and hedges using proper horticultural techniques and timing.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools and small power equipment (trimmers, blowers, edgers, etc.).
  • Assist with seasonal tasks such as spring/fall clean-ups, bulb planting, and winter protection for plants.
  • Maintain safe work practices and participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Load/unload materials and tools at the shop and on-site as required.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine interest in landscaping, gardening, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physically fit and able to perform repetitive tasks such as bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), digging, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic with attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
  • Willingness to learn proper horticultural techniques and landscaping best practices.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the shop or job sites.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Previous experience in landscaping, gardening, or outdoor labour.
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping tools and equipment (e.g., hand pruners, rakes, line trimmers, blowers).
  • Valid drivers license.
