The roleWe are seeking a Manager of Communications to join our public affairs team and help execute our communications strategy, particularly in relation to our media outreach, which supports our policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement. In this role, you will leverage your exceptional media relations expertise and proven copywriting skills to shape the narrative around carbon removal and Canada's role in it, while building your expertise in climate communications, advocacy, and emerging technologies.
The Manager of Communications will work closely with our Senior Director of Public Affairs to execute campaigns, create compelling content, and manage our digital presence. We're looking for someone who excels at building relationships with journalists and crafting persuasive copy, in addition to being able to find the compelling angle and interesting narrative in complex topics. This is an excellent opportunity for a communications professional with strong writing and media engagement experience to make a meaningful impact in the climate space while developing skills across multiple communications disciplines.
This position is remote and can be based anywhere in Canada. The position will report to the Senior Director of Public Affairs.

External Communications- Execute communications campaigns on national and provincial levels, working with senior staff to implement strategy, messaging, and tactics, leveraging your copywriting expertise to craft compelling narratives
- Create and manage content for owned communications channels including LinkedIn, X, and our website using your strong writing skills to engage diverse audiences
- Write and edit high-quality blog posts, newsletters, fact sheets, and policy summaries under the guidance of senior staff, demonstrating your ability to distill complex information into persuasive copy
- Lead the development of press releases, opinion pieces, and other media assets using your proven copywriting abilities and understanding of media needs
- Coordinate with graphic designers and external vendors to produce visual assets and materials
- Help drive media relations activities by maintaining and expanding media contact databases and tracking coverage using your relationship-building skills
- Proactively manage media inquiries and coordinate interview requests, leveraging your media relations expertise to secure strategic coverage
- Lead efforts to pitch media on carbon removal stories, using your media relations experience and copywriting skills to craft compelling story angles
- Create comprehensive media kits, backgrounders, and other materials for journalists that showcase your ability to write for media audiences
- Support the creation of materials for donor reports and presentations using your copywriting skills to create persuasive, donor-focused content
- Prepare staff for media interviews and public appearances, sharing your media relations knowledge and messaging expertise
- 4-7 years of experience in communications, marketing, or related field with demonstrated success in media relations and content creation
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, including experience writing for political audiences and media outlets
- Experience with social media management and digital communications platforms
- Strong background in media relations and press release writing, with a track record of successful media engagement
- Ability to translate complex technical information into accessible content
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Collaborative mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment
- You have experience in politics, climate, or policy communications
- You have worked in an advocacy organization where you led copywriting and media engagement efforts
- You're able to work in French
- You have deep knowledge of Canadian political and media landscapes, including established relationships with key journalists and outlets
This is a remote role, based anywhere in Canada. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada. Our entire team works remotely. We typically work standard hours (9am to 5pm ET), but are much more concerned about results and getting things done effectively than the time of day you work.
We will hold in-person team meetings and retreats quarterly to collaborate in person. Additional ad-hoc meetings may be necessary where in-person collaboration is preferable. The candidate should be ready to travel to events representing the organization as needed.
What we offerCarbon Removal Canada is committed to providing competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits to our employees.The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications and experience. We will discuss the overall range at our first meeting to ensure general alignment.
