The Opportunity
We are currently looking to add an experienced Coating Manager to run our sandblasting, painting and coating division out of our Fort Saskatchewan Fabrication shop. The Coating Manager will be responsible for growing the division and providing technical expertise, supervision and mentorship to industrial painters, sandblasters and coaters.

Compensation/Benefits

  • Can hire as a direct employee or as a Direct Service Provider/Sub Contractor.
  • Competitive hourly wage. Negotiable, based on experience.
  • 10% vacation and stat pay on all regular hours worked.

Responsibilities and Job Duties

  • Source new opportunities and leads for the division
  • Monitor and oversee all third party coating contractors
  • Estimate projects; develop schedules, budgets, materials, etc.
  • Assist estimating group to define client codes and specifications
  • Maintain and further develop existing client relationships
  • Supervise the coating process and ensure work is completed effectively and efficiently
  • Provide reports to management on the status of projects and overall division and team performance
  • Manage multiple teams providing guidance, support, training, mentorship and performance management
  • Manage and maintain coating quality department
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Monitor safety and quality protocols ensuring that all team members are following industry safety and quality procedures
  • Ensure that all equipment and tools are properly maintained and in excellent working condition
  • Collaborate with other divisions and departments to ensure project timelines are met and that quality standards are upheld
  • Maintain a positive and professional working environment and addressing issues that arise in a timely manner
  • Conduct routine site visits to client locations
  • Drive to achieve a zero-defect quality system

  • Leadership & Team Management – Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing coating teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Expertise – In-depth knowledge of coating systems, surface preparation, industrial painting, sandblasting, and curing processes.
  • Project Estimating & Scheduling – Skilled in preparing accurate estimates, developing budgets, and managing timelines for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Quality & Compliance Oversight – Strong ability to manage QA/QC processes, ensure industry compliance, and maintain documentation standards.
  • Client Relationship Management – Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to foster and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Problem Solving & Process Improvement – Ability to identify inefficiencies, recommend solutions, and implement operational improvements.
  • Safety-Oriented Mindset – Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols, hazard awareness, and promoting a zero-incident culture.
  • Computer & Digital Tools Proficiency – Comfortable working in a Google Workspace environment (Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Calendar) and using digital tools for reporting and tracking.
  • Flexibility & Initiative – Self-motivated, resourceful, and adaptable with a proactive approach to leadership and operations management.

Qualifications/Desired Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in industrial coating operations required
  • Preferred applicants to have NACE Level 3 Certification but applicants with NACE Level 2 will be acceptable
  • Strong knowledge of coatings, surface preparation, application techniques and curing methods
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to coating operations
  • Natural leader who enjoys training and leading by example
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with management, clients, contractors and vendors
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Experience working within a Google based environment using Google sheets, Docs, Gmail, Calendar, etc.
  • Excellent english communication skills
  • Prefer applicants to have Denso, SPC, Stopaq, NACE/AMPP coating tickets
  • Preference given to those that have First Aid, LSE, Fall Protection, H2S Alive, Confined Space tickets
  • Class 5 driver's license and a good driving record required.
