Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Communications Specialist will primarily support corporate initiatives that align with Assiniboine Credit Union's (ACU) strategic vision. This position develops and evaluates communication to effectively promote ACU's corporate profile to external audiences while also delivering and managing internal communications to support and inform employees in an engaging and creative way. The Communications Specialist combines strong writing and communication skills with project management capabilities and an ability to work closely with a variety of internal and external clients, including executive leadership. This role champions Assiniboine Credit Union/ Caisse Assiniboine (ACU)'s commitment to rural and agricultural communities, francophone services, values-based banking and ACU's triple bottom line accountability to people, planet, and prosperity.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Collaborate with various stakeholders (board, senior management, frontline, and back-office employees) to communicate ACU's vision, strategic priorities, and progress to internal and external audiences.
Strategic Planning & Leadership Communication
- Develop and execute strategic communications plans and campaigns in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Liaise directly with leadership to research, pitch, craft, and revise corporate messaging and announcements.
- Ensure all communications align with ACU's mission, vision, values, and commitment to values-based banking, including support for diverse communities such as urban, rural, agricultural, and Francophone groups.
Content Creation & Editorial Excellence
- Create and edit high-quality written content for the intranet, media, community, and employee communication channels.
- Prepare messaging and positioning in clear, creative, and well-formatted ways for easy consumption by frontline teams and internal employees.
- Manage the creation of external member communications.
- Ensure communication quality and compliance with corporate, regulatory, and brand standards, securing necessary approvals prior to publication.
- Create and maintain employee engagement through regular messaging, contests, and campaigns.
- Ensure all internal communications maintain and strengthen ACU's culture through strategic alignment and appropriate tone and content.
- Support the development and execution of corporate and employee events, including ACU's Annual Meeting, Annual Report, and employee sessions.
Channel Innovation & Multimedia Integration
- Identify unique communication delivery channels for stakeholder groups and champion communication solutions.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of photo, video, and audio content as viable formats for internal and corporate communications.
- Create and maintain employee engagement through regular messaging, contests, and campaigns.
- Manage the creation of external member communications.
Intranet Content Management
- User management – add, remove and amend intranet users; ensure the integrity of relationship and contact information
- Support intranet content owners in developing and maintaining sections, groups and pages.
- Communicate actively with all main stakeholders and user groups.
- Manage the homepage and all key sections of the intranet to maintain a proper balance of education, engagement and support.
- Maintain a sound site navigation (information architecture).
- Oversee authoring and proper use of online channels for official company news.
- Liaise with the IT Department on technical questions of implementation and upgrades.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
This position requires a post-secondary education in communications, or communications-related field, plus a minimum of two years' job-related experience. Experience in the financial sector is an asset.

- Ability to actively listen.
- Proven track record of success in developing and implementing communications programs that reach internal and external audiences.
- Experience managing or supporting maintenance of an intranet.
- Ability to handle confidential situations with sensitivity and tact.
- Diplomacy, professionalism and high personal intelligence are required to have dialogue, provide guidance and feedback to executive leaders.
- Understanding of ACU's commitment to Values Based Banking, French language services, and rural and agricultural communities
Location & Work Environment
This position is anticipated to be fully remote or hybrid role. Employees on a hybrid work arrangement will be required to be in-office at least one day each week. Attendance at in person meeting would be an expectation irrespective of the work arrangement. There is the potential of infrequent travel required to locations across Manitoba to support organizational needs.
