Operating a tri-axle dump truck, with or without a trailer, involves handling the vehicle but also floating equipment to various locations. Attention to best practices and responsibilities is critical for both safety and efficiency.
Vehicle and Equipment Safety - Proper Tie-Down Procedures:
Load Security: Ensure every load is properly balanced and secured before moving the vehicle.
Daily Inspections and Recordkeeping
Circle Checks and log book maintenance : Perform thorough daily circle checks of the truck and trailer prior to operation. Inspect tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels, and all safety devices. Ensure log books are compliant with regulatory standards and available for inspection. Follow the rules of the road to ensure the safety of other drivers.
Labour Tasks
Be prepared to assist with manual labour as required by the team. Duties may include loading and unloading materials, securing loads, or providing on-site support for various tasks. During downtime, sweeping and shoveling may be necessary to keep the work area safe and functional.
Teamwork and Labour Support
Demonstrate a collaborative approach, supporting colleagues to meet project goals and maintain a safe working environment. Step up to help where needed, fostering trust and reliability within the crew.
Communication Skills
Interpersonal Communication: Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, site supervisors, and management. Address any questions or concerns professionally and promptly
Equipment Issues: Immediately report any mechanical or operational issues to mechanics and/or management. Provide detailed descriptions to facilitate timely repairs and minimize downtime.
Road Safety and Compliance
Rules of the Road: Always adhere to traffic laws and regulations. Drive defensively, remaining aware of your surroundings and anticipating the actions of other drivers.
Safety of Others: Exercise caution, especially when maneuvering in high-traffic areas or work zones. Prioritize the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and fellow motorists at all times.
