Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Content Marketing, the Content Specialist is the creative force behind Canlan Sports' digital storytelling. This role is responsible for researching, creating, and deploying compelling content across social media and digital platforms to inspire and engage our diverse hockey and sports communities.

This person is fluent in internet culture, passionate about hockey, and thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment. They are comfortable behind or in front of the camera, confident using editing tools, and passionate about crafting content that resonates.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Execution:

  • Develop creative, high-quality content across video, photo, and written formats to support campaigns, programming, and brand storytelling.

  • Edit videos for social media using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut, or similar.

  • Write engaging copy for social posts, email campaigns, and digital assets with a consistent tone of voice.

Social Media & Content Deployment:

  • Post and schedule content across social media channels, tailoring creative and captions to suit each platform's voice, format, and user behaviour.

  • Engage with users and monitor comments/messages in real-time, ensuring our community voice is active and responsive.

  • Actively monitor trends, memes, viral audio, and platform feature changes to keep content timely and relevant.

Trend Research & Content Ideation:

  • Conduct ongoing trend analysis and cultural research to fuel content calendars with fresh, relevant ideas.

  • Brainstorm and pitch new content formats, series, or campaign ideas aligned with marketing priorities and seasonal moments.

  • Stay immersed in the world of sports, recreation, and lifestyle to authentically connect with our audience.

On-Site Content Production:

  • Capture behind-the-scenes moments, live action, and in-venue storytelling through photography and videography.

  • Attend programs, tournaments, and events to produce real-time content as needed.

  • Coordinate with athletes, coaches, and staff for interviews or quick-turn content opportunities.

Creative Asset Management:

  • Organize and maintain visual assets and working files in our Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.

  • Ensure content aligns with Canlan Sports' design guidelines, accessibility standards, and brand consistency.

Qualifications and Education
  • College or University Degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Media Relations, or a related creative field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a content creation or social media-focused role in hockey, ideally within an agency, sports, and recreation organization, or a related industry.

Skills & Attributes
  • Advanced knowledge of video editing software (Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut, etc.) and design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma).
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with an understanding of tone and voice across channels.
  • Passionate about social media culture, new formats, creators, and digital trends.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to juggle multiple content projects at once.
  • Comfortable filming content and interacting with talent/subjects behind the camera.
  • Self-starter with a collaborative spirit and passion for sports, community, and digital creativity.
