About the opportunity:
As a Dispatcher, your primary responsibilities will include receiving, analyzing, and prioritizing service calls, including 911 emergency calls. You will be tasked with dispatching resources, sharing important information, and providing operational support to various agencies. This role requires careful judgment and concentration, especially during busy periods. Additionally, you will need to prepare and document information for incident reports and perform tasks related to the Fire Operations Communications Centre. Please note that shift work is required with varied start times and overnight shifts.
About your background:
To qualify for this position, candidates must have completed grade 12 and possess at least two years of relevant experience in a public safety communications dispatch role. Preference will be given to those who have successfully completed a recognized public safety communications course, such as the APCO Fire Services Communications Course. Candidates are required to pass an audiology exam in accordance with NENA Hearing Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators. It is essential to maintain composure and control during difficult situations while handling calls in a courteous, confidential, and respectful manner. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or an equivalent from another province) is required. The successful candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses relevant to the position.
