Our client is a cloud-based financial services start-up that focuses on supporting online accounting and CFO services for start-ups across Canada and the US. They leverage financial and technological automation allowing CEOs to focus on optimizing and scaling their business.

Responsibilities of the Senior Accounting Associate is as follows but not limited to:

  • Providing proactive and warm client support as the first point of contact for accounting-related questions and support information, including recognizing issues and changes as they arise.
  • Providing a high standard of technical accounting to multiple clients, as assigned.
  • Posting transactions and recording sales entries from multiple e-commerce systems demonstrating a strong knowledge of recognized revenue principles.
  • Creating monthly reconciliation reports (reviewing bookkeeping entries, calculating accruals and other month-end entries, preparing working papers to support all balance sheets accounts).
  • Processing A/P for clients, including cash flow management.
  • Processing semi-monthly or bi-weekly payroll for Canadian and US clients, across multiple payroll platforms.
  • Preparing and filing sales tax returns across Canada (GST/HST, PST/RST/QST).
  • Preparing and filing payroll compliance returns across Canada (EHT, Worker's Compensation, T4s).
  • Challenging current tools, processes, methodologies etc., when appropriate, to ensure best practices are in place to support clients.
  • Building effective working relationships with clients and co-workers by effectively collaborating on work deliverables.
  • Meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining excellent quality of work.

  • You have 4+ years experience in public practice or related accounting fields — ideally experiencing high growth in a cloud environment.
  • CPA or pursuing.
  • You have an in-depth working knowledge of ASPE.
  • You have experience and working knowledge in Canadian federal and provincial sales tax filings.
  • You have experience and proficient knowledge of cloud accounting tools and can apply an integrated tech stack to optimize efficiencies and minimize manual processes (e.g. Xero, Netsuite, Stripe, Plooto, Shopify, GSuite, Slack, Dext, Humi, Wagepoint, Rippling).
  • You have a strong aptitude with structuring and processing data in Excel/GSheets to draw insightful conclusions from it, while maintaining a meticulous attention to detail.
  • You have an intuitive communication style with team members and clients that contributes to our culture of trust, respect, and reliability — especially when working remotely and asynchronously.
  • You have an uncanny ability to quickly and proficiently understand and absorb new information in an environment of complexity and change.
  • You self-manage your schedule, priorities and deadlines in a flexible way that aligns with your team.
