About the opportunity:
As a Cultural Safety Lead at CLBC, you will be responsible for advancing Indigenous Cultural Safety and the practice of cultural humility at Community Living BC. As a key member of the Indigenous Relations team, you will support the development of a cultural safety framework and plan relevant to the values and strategic direction of the organization and the community inclusion movement. This includes supporting the development of strategic priorities to address the needs of Indigenous self-advocates and their families; alignment with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and its principles; and guided by UNDRIP partners and our Indigenous Advisory Committee.
Key responsibilities:
- working collaboratively with the Indigenous Advisory Committee, CLBC staff, community partners, and other internal/external stakeholders to lead the organization to meet its goal of enhancing Indigenous people's access to CLBC services
- providing province-wide leadership on matters concerning Indigenous self-advocates and their families, working closely with Head Office Departments and Regional Operations to lead engagement with First Nations, Metis and Inuit people, and develop innovative approaches to advancing CLBC's relationships with Indigenous individuals and communities.
- providing leadership in policy and guidelines, systems-level collaboration, regional engagement and through knowledge of evidence-based practices, including curriculum development and program evaluation
- leading continuous quality improvement using a cultural safety lens; recognizing that cultural safety is a priority and responsibility shared by everyone
- collaborating with Executive teams and Regional Operations to provide expert advice in the application of various legislations and policies
This role requires a high level of knowledge and understanding of BC Indigenous issues, including the history and impact of residential schools, intersections of disability with culture, and steps to implement the Provincial Government's mandated Calls to Action.
What you'll bring:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field. A Master of Education degree is preferred
- Preference for a minimum of five years of experience working in both the government systems and with Indigenous Peoples in the community
- Experience in education, curriculum development, training, and research is an asset
We're also looking for:
- Familiar with the structure and operation of developmental disability supports and services in B.C.
- Knowledge of principles of change management and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated skills in assessing and managing conflict in often cross-cultural, emotionally charged, and complex learning environments
- Ability to assimilate new information and to discern potential implications (for existing proposals and strategies) and opportunities
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- Ability to interact with others in ways that advance the work of the team through respect and cooperation, to lead project groups and participate in consultations with staff and partners
- Skilled in facilitating and/or delivering training
