The Opportunity

We are currently looking for self-directed, engaging, empathetic Full Time Supportive Housing Child and Youth Support Worker to join our growing team. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, this position will provide support to youth in various locations throughout Langley with a specific focus on developing social and life skills in a collaborative team environment. This position supports 3 supportive housing programs for youth between the ages of 12 to 19 in the Langleys.

POSITION: Permanent - Full Time
HOURS OF WORK: 4 days on and 4 days off rotating schedule with 8-hour varying shifts
SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 12: $30.18 - $33.49 (depending on experience and qualifications)
BENEFITS: Extended Health, Dental, Group Retirement Savings Plan/TFSA
VACATION: As per ESS policy

Key Responsibilities
Ensures that the living environment for program participants is trauma informed, inclusive, comfortable, non-judgmental and reflective of cultural practices.
Engages in supportive conversations and provides emotional support to program participants on a one-one and/or group basis.

Recognizes and supports program participants with emotional dysregulation providing supportive conversations, de-escalation and encouraging the use of healthy coping mechanisms.
Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures including proper notifications (supervisor, MCFD, other professionals etc.).
Engaging with program participants to ensure personal needs are met by promoting life skills (ex. basic personal hygiene, preparing healthy and nutritious meals, access to community resources.)
Provides transportation and accompanies program participants to support them in attending appointments and healthy community activities.
Performs housekeeping duties in support of health and safety regulations. This may include but is not limited to vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, sanitizing, cleaning and laundry. Reports maintenance needs to the supervisor.
Maintains household supply levels by checking and restocking supplies such as groceries, personal care, emergency, and housekeeping supplies. Purchases supplies as required.
Performs other related duties as required.

We are interested in candidates with the following Qualifications
1. Education and Knowledge
Certificate/Diploma in a related human/social service field
Education and experience utilizing trauma informed practice


2. Training and Experience
Two (2) years recent related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Food Safety certificate
Current first aid

3. Skills and Abilities
Must possess a working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word/Excel/Teams)
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.
Supports participants and colleagues in high stress situations.
Flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.
Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, and bending.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment while supporting youth with complex needs.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing underrepresented, racialized, neurodiverse, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities.


4. Other Information
Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers license, have a personal reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract (mileage paid for work use).
Police Information check and MCFD background clearance.
