Pathways to Independence requires four (4) Casual Counsellors, Dual Diagnosis to provide case management and assisted living support for adults.
Under the direction of the Client Services Manager, the Counsellor, Dual Diagnosis plans and implements services and supports to adults with a dual diagnosis, mental health, behaviour challenges and those involved in forensic services in accordance with the person's life plan. The Counsellor, Dual Diagnosis guides and coaches the supported person to make positive decisions and build personal and community living skills using established strategies and behaviour management plans. In collaboration with the person's support team, the Counsellor ensures that every supported person understands their rights and responsibilities and provides services and supports to the person based on their needs, interests, and goals (QLP). The Counsellor, Dual Diagnosis ensures services and supports are offered that enhance a person's ability to choose and promotes self-determination and independence.
The successful candidate must have the following skills/qualifications:
- A post-secondary diploma or degree from a human services field and specialized education, training or certification in developmental disabilities, disability studies, behaviour management, social work, or psychology; (Proof of education is a condition of employment)
- Continuing education in dual diagnosis, behaviour management or mental health an asset.
- Proof of completion of an approved Pharmacology course.
- Current First Aid and CPR.
- Valid G class driver's license.
Ideal candidates will also have experience and abilities aligned with the key responsibilities, which includes:
- Demonstrate a person-centered philosophy and commitment to agency vision, mission, and guiding principles.
- Experience working with adults with a dual diagnosis or complex needs in a community based, group living or independent living environment.
- Provide effective services and supports to supported persons.
- Manage and maintain accurate client information and documentation.
- Participate in and ensure a positive team environment.
- Regular attendance is a requirement of this position.
The successful candidate must be able to perform the job duties as outlined in the job description. All employees at Pathways will be responsible for a commitment to safety. Shifts are typically 12 hours long and include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. May work with clients who have aggressive behaviours.
