Role OverviewThe Director of Human Resources will serve as a strategic leader, overseeing all HR functions for our global operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is pivotal in building and scaling a robust HR infrastructure across multiple countries, including Canada, the United States, the Philippines, Panama, South Africa, India, Albania, Greece, and Poland. The Director will manage HR and recruiting managers in these regions, ensuring standardized processes, legal compliance, and alignment with the company's mission of performance, accountability, and excellence. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Toronto, Ontario, requiring deep expertise in global HR management, recruitment, policy development, and executive reporting.
Responsibilities- International HR Team Oversight
- Directly supervise HR Managers and Recruiting Managers across 9+ countries, fostering clear communication and authority protocols.
- Standardize HR workflows using tools like Zoho People, Zoho Recruit, and Zoho Learn to ensure consistency.
- Conduct bi-weekly performance reviews with regional HR leaders to monitor progress and recruitment outcomes.
- Establish escalation protocols for resolving HR-related issues across jurisdictions.
- Global Recruitment Management
- Oversee global recruitment operations, personally approving hires for leadership roles.
- Develop and maintain standardized job descriptions, interview processes, and onboarding procedures aligned with business objectives.
- Build a global candidate pipeline to minimize vacancy times across departments.
- Collaborate with external recruiting firms as needed to support high-volume or specialized hiring.
- Compliance & Legal HR Operations
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax codes, and regulations in all operating countries.
- Maintain a centralized audit log for contracts, employee records, and dispute resolutions.
- Lead HR audits, workplace safety reviews, and equity compliance checks.
- Address and resolve employee relations issues, ensuring adherence to legal and internal policies.
- Payroll, Budget & Financial HR Operations
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processes across all regions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage the HR department's annual budget, including salaries, bonuses, contractor payments, team retreats, and benefits programs.
- Coordinate with Accounting and Finance teams for budget approvals and financial reporting.
- Monitor and report on HR-related expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Policy Development & SOP Standardization
- Draft and enforce HR policies, employee handbooks, and procedural manuals tailored to each region's legal requirements.
- Deliver onboarding and training programs via Zoho Learn, ensuring localized content where necessary.
- Conduct quarterly reviews to update SOPs and policies in line with current laws and company goals.
- Performance Management & KPIs
- Set and monitor department-level KPIs for HR and recruiting functions, ensuring global alignment.
- Conduct quarterly performance evaluations for HR and recruiting managers.
- Deliver monthly dashboards to the CEO, tracking headcount, attrition, productivity, and other key metrics.
- Implement performance improvement plans (PIPs) and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Employee Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the entire employee journey, from recruitment and onboarding to training, evaluation, promotion, and offboarding.
- Manage employee relations, complaints, disputes, and investigations in compliance with legal and company standards.
- Ensure seamless integration of new hires into the company culture and processes.
- Benefits, Vacation, and Leave Administration
- Administer company-wide benefits, vacation policies, and leave tracking systems.
- Ensure compliance with tenure-based vacation policies and statutory leave requirements (e.g., sick leave, parental leave).
- Maintain accurate employee records in Zoho People for all leave-related activities.
- Culture & Employer Branding
- Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and accountable culture across all locations.
- Partner with PR and Marketing to enhance the company's reputation as an employer of choice.
- Implement engagement initiatives, retention programs, and recognition systems to boost employee satisfaction.
- Executive & Strategic Reporting
- Act as a key advisor to the CEO on workforce planning, compliance, and HR risks.
- Prepare and deliver monthly executive summaries, payroll reports, and performance dashboards.
- Participate in quarterly executive planning meetings to align HR strategies with business expansion goals.
- Experience: Minimum of 12 years in Human Resources, with at least 5 years in a Director-level role, and a proven track record managing a workforce of 1,000+ employees across multiple countries.
- Global Expertise: Demonstrated experience working with international labor laws and HR operations in regions such as Canada, the United States, the Philippines, Panama, South Africa, India, Albania, Greece, and Poland.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in Zoho People, Zoho Recruit, Zoho Payroll, Zoho Learn, Zoho WorkDrive, Zoho Cliq, Google Workspace, and Telus Business Connect.
- Leadership: Strong ability to manage and mentor HR and recruiting managers globally, with a focus on accountability and performance.
- Compliance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Canadian HR laws and international employment legislation, with experience leading HR audits and compliance reviews.
- Strategic Reporting: Proven ability to prepare executive-level reports and present KPIs to C-suite leadership, with excellent organizational and meeting facilitation skills.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree or CHRP/SHRM designation preferred.
- Location: Must be based in Toronto, Ontario, and available for full-time, on-site work.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders globally.
