Your Role:
Reporting to the Facilities and Security Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of the School's physical environment. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties to maintain and repair the School's buildings, equipment, and grounds. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant will also assist with preventive maintenance tasks, carry out minor repairs, support office moves, and help with setting up rooms for meetings, events, and performances.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keep equipment, systems and buildings ready for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules, report any issues and anomalies to the Facilities and Security Manager
- Complete equipment and building repairs by following the manufacturer's instructions and the School's maintenance procedures; utilizing a variety of building trade skills such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical, and door hardware
- Set up and/or rearrange offices, meeting rooms, studios, and residence rooms by installing office and bedroom furniture, tables, chairs and presentation equipment for meetings and various special events
- Assist grounds maintenance to maintain the exterior of the buildings by removing ice and snow from walkways and parking areas, and picking up litter and debris from the NBS property
- Maintain a safe working environment by complying with all procedures, rules and regulations
- Perform other duties as required to achieve the objectives of the Facilities & Operations Department
- All other duties as assigned
- Apprenticeship in electrical, plumbing, drywall, carpentry, and painting is considered an asset
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a professional environment
- Sound technical and mechanical knowledge to complete routine maintenance and repairs
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and diagnose problems
- Capable of lifting 50lbs comfortably; may be required to move furniture, conduct minor repairs/construction, clear snow and ice, etc.
- Sound oral and written communication skills to execute instructions and understand colleagues and staff
- Ability to deal diplomatically with colleagues, staff and the public
- Ability to correctly and safely operate basic power tools
- Ability to take accurate measurements and perform simple mathematical calculations
- Ability to read and understand machine diagrams, installation manuals and maintenance/repair manuals
