Job Title: Analytics Engineer – Data Modeling & Migration
Location: Remote (Canada)
Department: Data & Analytics
Reports To: Manager, Data Integration & Architecture
Mogo is seeking an Analytics Engineer who thrives at the intersection of business understanding and technical execution. In this dual-focus role, you will work closely with stakeholders across the finance business to define and build semantic models in Snowflake, while also contributing to upcoming data migration initiatives that involve rebuilding and modernizing our core Python-based ETL pipelines.
This position is a 50/50 blend of business-facing semantic modeling and production-grade data engineering, offering a unique opportunity to drive both insight accessibility and data infrastructure modernization. You will become the subject matter expert (SME) for Mogo's core consumer finance products and help shape the next generation of AI-powered analytics at Mogo.
Base salary for this role: $80,000 - $100,000 CAD
What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities:

1. Business-Facing Semantic Modeling (50%)
  • Design and maintain semantic data models in Snowflake to support our products, powering self-service analytics via Cortex Analyst.
  • Partner with Finance, Product, and Risk teams to define KPIs, translate business logic into reusable data models, and ensure consistent reporting.
  • Collaborate on the development of an AI-powered chatbot using Streamlit (Python) that answers natural language questions based on semantic models.
  • Act as the SME for Mogo's core consumer finance products, ensuring models are well-aligned with business workflows and financial reporting needs.
2. Data Engineering & Migration (50%)
  • Support and lead aspects of data migration initiatives by analyzing, redesigning, and implementing production-grade Python ETL pipelines.
  • Ensure new data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and observable, with appropriate documentation and governance.
  • Work closely with other teams to integrate ETL pipelines into the broader production environment.
3. Culture & High Performance
  • Embody and model Mogo's high-performance attributes: ownership, collaboration, innovation, speed, and impact.
  • Share knowledge and best practices across teams to foster data-driven decision-making.
What you will bring:
  • 4–7 years experience in a data engineering, analytics engineering, or hybrid data role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for building, testing, and maintaining ETL workflows.
  • Experience building or maintaining semantic data models in Snowflake or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, and dimensional modeling practices.
  • Ability to work closely with stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into robust data structures.
  • Experience working with AI powered analytics tools or interfaces (e.g., Cortex Analyst, conversational analytics).
  • Familiarity with best practices in production-grade ETL deployment: testing, monitoring, observability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Talend, Airflow).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker)
  • Familiarity with financial services, particularly lending, credit risk, or loan servicing.
  • Experience contributing to data platform modernization or migration initiatives.
What Success Looks Like
  • Lending business teams rely on your semantic models for fast, self-serve answers to critical questions.
  • You have redesigned and deployed reliable Python ETLs that support Mogo's modern data infrastructure.
  • You're known across teams as the go-to expert for our core data and a trusted technical partner in data transformation efforts.
