Hours of work: Work schedule will be from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, including weekend shifts as well as coverage for holidays and sick leave.

This position is with our Good Shepherd Centre's- MEN'S CENTRE

Reporting to the Manager of Janitorial Department/Director, the Janitor enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients , visitors and staff through the implementation and direct delivery o all programs/services.

Availability, Flexibility, Adaptability and Hospitality is aided by a welcoming environment as evidenced by the provision of clean and dignified living, visiting and working areas. In meeting this objective, the janitor performs their duties in accordance with a schedule of tasks, as well as those tasks required in response to the daily needs and circumstances of the Centre.

Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the Janitor is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work within the Good Shepherd Centre.


How You Will Make an Impact


  • To carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission and Values of Good Shepherd Centres.
  • To provide a work ethic in leadership and role modelling of behaviours that demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Centres.
  • To provide service in a dignified, culturally-competent and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd Centres and which reflects an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.
  • Keeping the shelter areas and lockers clean and tidy.
  • Maintaining a non-judgmental attitude towards clients and guests and flexibility in meeting the needs of persons accessing services of the Good Shepherd Centre
  • Performing all job responsibilities in a compassionate and professional manner toward all persons served at Good Shepherd Centre.
  • Working as a member of a team and attending Staff Meetings.
  • Cleaning responsibilities may increase in the absence of other staff (e.g. weekends, illness, vacation times, or as otherwise required).
  • From time to time more extensive cleaning of the Centre may be required.
  • To perform specific duties in accordance with the daily, weekly, monthly and periodic cleaning, of the Men's Centre and Food bank area, in accordance with the List of Janitorial Responsibilities as may be amended from time to time.
  • Will be required to perform other duties related to the ministries of the Good Shepherd Centre as directed by the Director of the Centre, or delegate.
  • To observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd Centres;

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Related experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Responsibility, Availability, Hospitality, Adaptability, Quality and Dignity.
  • CPR/First Aid certification and WHMIS training.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in a fast paced and changing work environment.
  • Creativity and flexibility in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Hospitable in dealings with clients/public / volunteers / staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Available and responsive to the needs of others.
  • Respectful and compassionate demeanor.
  • Good communication and organizational
  • Subject to the requirements of the Human Rights Code, a police clearance report is required to determine the suitability to be employed in a Social Service Agency. It shall be at the sole discretion of Good Shepherd to assess the suitability of employment based on the criminal reference status of the employee.
