Who are we looking for?
Northstar Accesshas an awesome and unique opportunity for aScaffoldDraftsperson/Designerto come and join our team. The successful candidate will join our small but growing Drafting & Design department, working closely with our Estimating team and Engineering partners to produce construction drawings for residential, commercial, and industrial scaffolding projects. The position suits a proactive and collaborative team player with the ability to develop proposals and working drawings across for multiple branches across Canada. This position would ideally be based out of our Toronto location.
What will you be doing?
In this role, responsibilities would include:
- 2D and 3D drafting of drawings in AutoCAD (for review/stamping by engineering partners).
- Produce comprehensive drawing packages in a timely manner.
- Create shop drawings.
- Discuss the scope of new projects and drawings/designs with Management.
- Coordinate with our estimating team, clients, and consultants to meet fabrication and constructability requirements.
- Assist in the creation and management of numbering and naming schemes for drawings, documents, models, etc.
- Site visits and collaboration with the construction crew.
- Working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Take on additional responsibilities as required.
What skills and qualifications you will need?
- Relevant college or university diploma or degree, including technical training/degree in drafting/design
- Minimum 5+ years previous drafting experience in the scaffolding or construction space
- Must be proficient in AutoCAD
- Understanding of building construction practices and details.
- Ability to read and understand architectural and multi-discipline engineering drawings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Self-starter, motivated and detail orientated
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve
- High level of math skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Experienced with MS Office: Excel & Word
Environmental Working Conditions & Physical Effort
- Typically works in an office setting with adequate lighting and ventilation and provided with a normal range of room temperature and noise level
- Minimal physical effort required. Work is mostly sedentary but can require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10lbs.
- Frequent viewing of a computer screen and the use of hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and open documents.
- Frequent volume of work and deadlines that could impose mental strain and require focus on a routine basis. Work assignments are diversified. Frequent focus required to complete analysis and resolve unique problems. Recollection of past precedent may be required to resolve work problems.
- Occasional visits to job sites may be required.
