Responsibilities:

  • Leading and supervising a team of unionized workers to optimize safety, product quality and productivity in the Pre-Print Operations
  • Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with OHS standards; that workers are protected from any hazards and such hazards are identified and controlled; and workers use the prescribed safety equipment
  • Maintain and enforce quality standards by utilizing the quality sign off checklist to ensure all work meets company and industry standards
  • Monitor crew activities to ensure consistent compliance with established quality protocols
  • Provide clear guidance, training, and reinforcement to team members on quality expectations
  • Take corrective action when procedures are not followed, maintaining accountability across the team
  • Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement within daily operations
  • Develop plans to ensure annual KPI objectives are achieved for safety, product quality, downtime, efficiencies and cost; providing direction and support to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coach and performance manage workers with emphasis on following standard procedures implemented regarding safety and quality; promoting frequent communication, feedback and promoting a high level of teamwork and engagement
  • Plan the effective and efficient scheduling of labour
  • Oversee the pre-staging process to ensure all cylinders, anilox rolls, and related materials are properly prepared and ready after jobs go on press
  • Manage the production teams to verify that all necessary items are organized, cleaned, and checked for readiness, minimizing downtime during production.
  • Enforce strict adherence to pre-staging protocols, holding crew members accountable for ensuring all materials are in optimal condition and on-hand after job starts
  • Lead the team in identifying potential bottlenecks or issues during the pre-staging phase and implement solutions to avoid delays.
  • Managing the daily printing plate demounting and cleaning activities
  • Provide expertise and direction in the determination of equipment, parts and materials needed and coordinating preventative maintenance needs
  • Foster strong relationships and communication with internal and externals departments and stakeholders
  • Coach and enforce specific safety rules and behaviors ensuring timely and accurate reporting of accidents / incidents and proactive prevention measures
  • Provide daily feedback to workers on performance and conduct performance reviews with direct reports
  • Facilitate crew meetings to ensure current safety, quality and production related issues are considered and resolved
  • Oversee and manage 5S activities to maintain cleanliness and organization of the workstations in line with company standards.
  • Ensure all crew members adhere to 5S principles by conducting regular inspections and providing ongoing coaching. Lead periodic 5S audits, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Train and motivate team members to take ownership of maintaining a clean, organized workspace at all times.
  • Monitor and track employee attendance records to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Identify patterns of absenteeism and proactively address attendance issues through appropriate follow-up and documentation.
  • Enforce attendance policies consistently and support disciplinary actions when necessary, in accordance with HR guidelines. Administration and application of the collective agreement and Company policies/procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Printing experience highly recommended for this role.
  • 5 + years Supervisory or operations leadership experience within the Corrugated packaging sector is highly desired ; experience in a high volume manufacturing environment is a prerequisite
  • Proficient with MS Office applications and systems
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills are essential
  • Ability to organize and prioritize essential tasks to achieve results
  • Able to work rotating shifts as per operational requirements
