Maskawatisiwin Support Worker
The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council is comprised of the five member Nations and is responsible for providing guidance and support to the individual member First Nations in developing and achieving success in the management and administration of their own programs with the intent of developing self-reliance.
The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council consists of the member Nations of Loon River First Nation #476, Lubicon Lake Band #453, Peerless Trout First Nation #478, Whitefish Lake First Nation #459 and Woodland Cree First Nation #474. It was formed in 1995 to facilitate joint action by the member Nations on matters of mutual concern.
We are looking for energetic, hardworking people, committed to First Nation community members and their families. You work effectively with other service providers to coordinate services and supports, linking families and community members to assessments, referrals, and other mental health and addiction supports. You are familiar with mental health and addiction programs and resources in northern Alberta and can work equally well independently as well as part of a team.
Job Description:
This position is a unique opportunity designed specifically for someone who is interested in supporting clients on their mental wellness journey. On the job training, as well as furthering your education through professional development, will be supported by KTC Health!
Responsibilities:
- Working with local health services, determine feasibility of providing holistic treatment support to local members.
- Collaborating with team lead to develop in community programming with Elders/local knowledge keepers to support members. Connecting with established service providers in addiction, mental health, and cultural ways of knowing to leverage existing community capacities. Delivering appropriate programing and cultural teachings.
- Utilizing existing resources (cultural camps, and service providers) to host community events with a focus on mental wellness.
- The Maskawtisiwin Support Workers activities will be done under the direction of a supervisor, using a strengths-based approach:
- Provides assistance to community members and leadership to develop positive and effective daily living strategies.
- Helps client and family to identify needs.
- Finds appropriate services to meet needs. Creates awareness and connections to community resources for community members.
- Transporting clients (as required)
- Works collaboratively with local services to coordinate referrals (if needed).
- Assists in crisis intervention as needed
- Handle general inquiries regarding mental health supports available in the community.
- Develop and provide training and education sessions.
- Works with existing programs (e.g. KTC Nisohtitan Team, Maternal Child Health, NNADAP, etc.) to enhance services.
- Works with other KTC agencies (e.g. C&FC, KTCEA) when requests for program purposes.
- Takes support calls from children, youth and their families/caregivers and members of the community.
- Coordinates and facilitates community presentations as requested from community health centre staff (e.g. Grief & Loss, Suicide Intervention, etc.)
- Resource for mental wellness supports and activities that are available through outside agencies (e.g. AHS).
- Gather data and complete reporting as required.

Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in Human Services (e.g. Social Work, Nursing or other related field) or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft (word, excel, outlook)
- Possess a valid Alberta drivers license, access to a vehicle and ability to travel.
- Experience in Service planning and coordination
- Experience working in or closely with Indigenous.
- Fluency in an Cree is an asset.
Conditions of Employment:
RCMP/Police Criminal Record Check submitted prior to commencement of employment. Proof of professional designation and/or educational requirements.
Clear Child Intervention Check must be submitted prior to commencement of employment.
Candidates must possess valid drivers license with access to a vehicle and willingness, capability, and flexibility in working in and travelling to KTC First Nation communities.
