Chimo 5 Group Home Supervisor

The Chimo Youth Retreat Centre is a non-profit organization that has served youth and families in the Edmonton region for over 50 years. Our great staff team provides a range of programs and services to youth between 13 and 22.

The SOLO with Supports Program (SWS) is looking for a Full-Time Group Care Supervisor for the Chimo 5 Transitional Group Care Home.

The Solo with Supports program is a community-based program that assesses and teaches life and living skills to youth requiring additional support as they transition to adulthood. The youth in this program are typically receiving services through Child and Family Services (CFS), Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and/or Delegated First Nations Agencies (DFNA). Often youth in this program will transfer to the adult support system(s) such as Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD), and/or Adult Mental Health (AHS Programs and Services).

Role:

  • Working in a relational way to maintain a safe and positive environment, while supporting individuals with life skills, personal goals and social interactions
  • Supporting and advocating for youth in the development of healthy relationships, emotional regulation, positive lifestyles, personal safety, time management, recreation, self-advocacy, education and vocational exploration
  • Maintaining daily routines, in-home support services, transportation to and from day-programming/community appointments, facilitating recreational opportunities
  • Monitoring the safety and operations of licensed home
  • Maintaining interior and exterior of the home (housework, yard maintenance, snow removal, etc.)
  • Working collaboratively with service team
  • Providing leadership and supervision to key workers and relief group care staff
  • Managing schedule rotation and relief shift schedule
  • Approval of staff timesheets and time-off requests
  • Authorization of staff mileage and expense claims
  • Inclusion in the program's on-call after hours support
  • Working effectively and participating in agency leadership meetings with all other Chimo supervisors on the leadership team.
  • Contributing to the on-going successful development of the Solo with Supports program

Ideal Candidate will Possess:

  • Diploma or degree in the Human Services field (Education, Child & Youth Care, etc.) is preferred but those with a diploma and extensive experience will be considered
  • Two or more years combined experience working in group care setting and a minimum of one-year supervisory experience
  • A strong understanding of working with youth who live with challenges in areas including developmental disabilities, mental health, attachment, addictions and barriers to accessing community resources
  • Knowledge of community resources to support youth
  • Current (within 6 months) Police Information Check (including vulnerable sector) and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Class 5 AB Driver's Licence, three years driving experience, a clean three-year drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or medical exemption

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to physically interact with youth during recreation outings, etc.

Hours:

  • 36 hours per week (Mondays 9am-9pm and Tuesdays to Thursdays 9am-5pm)
  • Since this is a group care setting, statutory holidays will be required to be worked (vacation accrual reflects this)
  • On-Call on a rotating basis for weekday after-hours and weekend back-up support (compensation included in salary, with the exception of time worked while on-call)

Annual Salary: $59,125

Benefits: Extended Health (after three months) and Dental (after one year)

Annual Vacation: Accrue 2.5 holidays per month (equivalent to 30 days per year)
