The Opportunity

The Ambassador will support and lead initiatives as part of COVEs Career Pathways programming which includes focused efforts in offshore wind, ocean literacy, and other areas related to marine-based industries. The Ambassador will aim to build engagement and capacity in pre-career groups such as school-aged youth and post-secondary. The ability to develop partnerships and relationships will be an important aspect to this role, particularly with educators and rural, Indigenous and French speaking communities. The Ambassador will be impactful in promoting career pathways in communities and be responsible for creating land-based and Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing) programming, highlighting the importance of Indigenous ways of knowing.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in upscaling and delivering local and national-level education initiatives, particularly the OffshoreWind4Kids program.
  • Work closely with Indigenous communities to support the creation of culturally responsive curriculum materials that include indigenous histories, languages, and traditions, providing students with a more inclusive and comprehensive education.
  • Develop and implement educational programs integrating ocean literacy and Indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, educators, etc., to curate culturally relevant learning experiences.
  • Organize and deliver on-site tours of COVE for post-secondary students and students in grades 6-12, and others as required.
  • Present to youth using a variety of learning mediums such as in-person activities, e-learning and multi-media.
  • Assess program effectiveness to determine the impact of training/programs on youth participants and value to educators.
  • Communicate with educational and community stakeholders and partners that serve youth to promote and share education programs and projects offered by COVE.
  • Support the launch and delivery of new initiatives as part of the workforce development program.
  • Represent COVE in all areas of work and delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with COVEs policies and procedures, including human resources, safety, and operational standards.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required to support the success and growth of COVEs programs and strategic initiatives.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Social Science, Community Development, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years experience in program development and facilitation, including education/learning and development program implementation, design, development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Mtis, or Inuit). Preference will be given to individuals with experience in the Mikmaq Two-Eyed Seeing approach to curriculum development, which integrates Indigenous and Western knowledge systems to create a holistic and inclusive educational framework.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs.Skilled in report writing and project management to ensure program objectives and deadlines are met.Proven ability to be innovative and agile.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.Committed to upholding honesty and integrity, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable, self-motivated, and results-oriented professional with a strong ability to develop and execute plans effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and an ability to communicate complex ideas in succinct and compelling ways.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people and cultivate relationships.
  • Experience working with school-age youth and/or educators.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in instructional design, analysis, measurement, and evaluation methods.
  • Committed to upholding honesty and integrity, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

Additional Assets:

  • Working proficiency in French (spoken and written) is considered a strong asset.
  • Graduate-level education in a related field.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, Elders, and Knowledge Holders.
  • Direct experience working in the technology or marine sector.
