Indigenous Cultural Safety Coordinator New Position

Salary: $58,662 - $72,147
Location: Primarily remote-based with regular travel to communities within Maamwesying OHT service area

The opportunity: The Indigenous Cultural Safety Coordinator will play a pivotal role in fostering a culturally safe and responsive healthcare environment within the Maamwesying Ontario Health Team and its partner organizations. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating strategies, training, and initiatives that enhance cultural understanding, address systemic biases and promote equitable health outcomes for Indigenous clients and communities. The Coordinator will act as a key resource and advocate, working to embed Indigenous cultural safety principles into all aspects of the OHTs operations, policies and practices.
What you need to bring with you:
- Bachelors degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Health Sciences, Education, Public Health or a related field. A Masters degree is an asset
- Minimum of three to five years of demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations and/or in Indigenous health
- Proven experience in developing and delivering various training and education programs
- Experience in policy development, program coordination, and project management
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols, traditions and ways of knowing
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication (oral and written) skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals and groups
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to travel regularly within the Maamwesying OHT service area
- Knowledge of local Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language is considered a significant asset

What to expect? Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time to time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar may occur.
