The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. Who You Are

Mikisew Cree First Nation is currently seeking a dedicated Employment Clerk to join our Community Services department. Reporting to the Employment & Training Manager, the ideal candidate is passionate about providing administrative support and committed to serving community members with professionalism and care. You bring strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where confidentiality is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel and Outlook) is required, and experience with Xyntax is considered an asset. Your excellent communication skills and reliability make you a valued contributor to our team

This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Employment and Human Resources departments.
  • Assist with Employment Insurance and all the benefits in relation to the program by conducting inquires.
  • Assist with claimant reports and interpretation of correspondence.
  • Assist clientele with resume preparation, career aptitude test and interview skills.
  • Assist clients with completion of Social Insurance Number application.
  • Complete training documentation a with client information and occupational coding.
  • Monitor client progress, attendance and provide consistent update on clients file.
  • Assist clientele to referral or casual, part-time or permanent employment opportunities both within the community and surrounding area.
  • Data input on clients and statistics.
  • Provide labour market information to clientele, including updates on Labour Standards.
  • Provide information to the General Public regarding agencies and what is provided.
  • Provide monthly report to the Employment Services Coordinator.
  • Maintain a resources library of career material and education information for clients.
  • Work closely with the Education and Social Enhancement Coordinators to assist clients.
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor and/or Director.

Qualifications

  • Completed at least one year of post secondary studies and/or relevant experience.
  • Highly responsible, reliable and must maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook and Xyntax is considered an asset.
  • Excellence organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.

Other Requirements

  • Possess a valid Class 5 AB drivers license and own or access to a vehicle.
  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
