The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists in our Sherritt Operations Metals department within the Gas Reform & Ammonia team for a 3rd Class Operator located in Fort Saskatchewan. The purpose of this position is to oversee and ensure the safe start-up and shutdown of circuits, monitor equipment within the circuits, maintain operational settings and parameters, operate the DCS, and manage the workflow process to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
In this role, you will be accountable for:
- Troubleshooting and resolving process, circuit, and equipment issues or upset conditions.
- Operating and monitoring automated control systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Regularly inspecting and assessing plant equipment to identify potential issues.
- Measuring and recording key parameters, including temperature, flow, and pressure.
- Analyzing instrument readings and maintaining accurate records for operational insights.
- Performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
- Cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining machinery and components for peak performance.
- Maintaining a detailed daily log of operations, maintenance, and safety activities for compliance and reporting.
- 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate issued by ABSA.
- Consideration may be given to applicants who have successfully passed all four 3rd Class Papers.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
- 5 years industrial plant operating experience is preferred.
- Gas plant experience preferred.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts as part of a continuous 24-hour rotation.
- Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
