We are looking for a skilled and proactive Data Lake Specialist to join our team, with a focus on supporting and optimizing cloud-based data infrastructure built on Azure Data Lake and Azure Databricks. This role bridges the gap between the Data Engineering and Data Operations teams, enabling efficient software delivery through automation, CI/CD practices, and collaborative tooling. As a key member of the Data Operations team, you will manage deployments, automate infrastructure, troubleshoot pipeline issues, and ensure security and performance across a modern Data Lakehouse architecture.
What will you be doing?
- Drive DevOps practices across the data platform by bridging development and operations within Azure Data Lake and Azure Databricks environments.
- Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and Terraform to deploy infrastructure, notebooks, and data workflows.
- Monitor and maintain system performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Databricks job tracking to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Automate repetitive tasks, including deployments, cluster provisioning, and job scheduling, using Databricks CLI, REST APIs, and scripting tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues within ETL pipelines, Delta Lake tables, and ingestion processes to ensure data quality and reliability.
- Support production and development environments, ensuring smooth operation and availability of Spark clusters and ADLS zones (raw, curated, refined).
- Optimize system and pipeline performance through Spark tuning, efficient partitioning, and storage best practices in Azure Data Lake.
- Implement and maintain security controls including Azure RBAC, Databricks workspace permissions, and data lake access policies.
- Develop and maintain T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and Databricks notebooks for ETL processes.
- Conduct data analysis and impact assessments using Databricks SQL and Azure Purview for data lineage and change tracking.
- Identify and resolve data quality or completeness gaps between source systems and the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security through robust validation, schema enforcement, and Delta Lake transactional guarantees.
What experience do you have?
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in DevOps, Data Operations, or a related role within a cloud-based data ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Lake Storage (Gen2) and Azure Databricks.
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps and Terraform, and scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Solid understanding of data pipeline monitoring, performance optimization, and incident resolution in cloud environments.
- Familiarity with data governance, access controls, and compliance standards in Azure.
- Experience with SQL, T-SQL, and data modeling for large-scale analytics platforms.
- Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Purview, and other Azure-native data services is a plus.
- Preferred Certifications:
