About the Role
Sync.com is looking for a decisive and insightful Infrastructure Team Lead to join the company.
The Infrastructure Team Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our co-located datacenter infrastructure, which is the backbone of our IT operations. This team lead is responsible for designing, building, managing, and maintaining the datacenter infrastructure to support Sync and our customer's needs. Your primary objectives will be to ensure business continuity, optimize performance and efficiency, manage risk and compliance while growing our infrastructure operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage a small team of technical staff, providing guidance, oversight, and mentorship to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, while also fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of collocated hardware assets, including monitoring health, performance, and capacity utilization, as well as performing routine maintenance tasks.
- Design, implement, and manage complex ZFS pools to ensure optimal data storage efficiency, availability, and redundancy for critical applications.
- Oversee the implementation and management of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL, ensuring that all services are delivered in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
- Manage virtualized environments including provisioning, patching, and monitoring virtual machines to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Develop and implement comprehensive backup strategies for critical applications and data, ensuring that all necessary recovery procedures are in place to minimize downtime and data loss.
- Design, implement, and manage complex networking infrastructure, including routing, switching, and security configurations, to ensure high availability and scalability of critical services.
- Manage relationships with vendors, including equipment manufacturers, storage providers, and other third-party services, ensuring that all contracts are up-to-date, compliant with company policies, and aligned with business objectives.
- Analyze current and future infrastructure needs, ensuring that all hardware and services are properly allocated to meet business demands, while also identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements through capacity planning and optimization strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 10+ years of hands-on experience in datacenter infrastructure management with a proven track record of designing, building, and managing complex datacenter infrastructures.
- Strong knowledge of virtualization and container technologies such as LXC and Docker
- Expertise in disk storage systems, including SANs, NAS, and disk storage arrays.
- Familiarity with high-performance storage and networking equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Proven track record of managing teams and projects (e.g. project management certifications)
- Strong understanding of IT service management frameworks (e.g. ITIL Foundation certification)
- Familiarity with datacenter cooling systems and knowledge of power distribution units (PDUs)
- Familiarity with various backup and disaster recovery technologies, including tape-based and cloud-based solutions.
- Strong understanding of network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Familiarity with security protocols (e.g. SSL/TLS, VPNs, firewalls)
- Strong understanding of cabling and connectivity standards (e.g. Category 5, Category 6)
- Understanding of various network architectures and design principles to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
