Position Summary

Axis Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk on behalf of our non-profit sector client. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, Controller, or Finance Manager, the Accounting Clerk plays a key role in supporting financial operations, focusing on accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), reconciliations, journal entries, capital assets schedules, and fund balance maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Vendor Interaction

  • Respond to inquiries from clients, vendors, and stakeholders with professionalism

  • Handle incoming cash and cheque transactions securely

  • Support finance interns, students, or volunteers as needed

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Review AP invoice batches and AR billings, including internal billings and cash receipts

  • Perform or support AP and AR functions, providing backup as necessary

  • Ensure timely and accurate execution of bank deposits

  • Maintain and reconcile AP subledger with general ledger

  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries

Financial Operations

  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations

  • Assist with preparation of annual audit files

  • Develop and maintain organized filing systems

  • Prepare department-specific financial reports

  • Perform other duties as assigned by finance leadership

  • May work from various locations based on organizational needs

Health & Safety

  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and internal safety policies

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

  • Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary

  • Attend required safety training and review safety protocols annually

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting or finance

  • Diploma or certificate in Accounting or related field

  • Solid knowledge of GAAP accounting principles

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of MS Office

  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Great Plains, QuickBooks)

  • Experience in a non-profit or community-focused environment is an asset

  • Familiarity with Deaf culture or ability to communicate with Deaf individuals is a plus

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Valid full G driver's license
