ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

The Economic Development Assistant plays a supportive role in advancing the economic goals of Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN). Working reporting to the Economic Development Manager, this position helps coordinate economic development initiatives, supports project administration, maintains communication with stakeholders, and contributes to WLFNs long-term economic sustainability. The assistant provides vital administrative and research support and helps ensure efficient operation of the department.

Employment Type

One-Year Term (End date March 31, 2026), full time, 35 hours per week.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

Completion of a diploma or in Business, Economics, Political Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Recent graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Experience Required

Previous project coordination, research, administrative, or support experience in an office or development-focused environment is an asset.

Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the Economic Development Manager on projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing documents, business proposals, reports , and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development of a strategic development plan.
  • Maintain and organize files, project records, and meeting minutes.
  • Help track project timelines and deliverables, ensuring follow-ups and deadlines are met.
  • Conduct research on funding programs, investment opportunities, and industry trends.
  • Support communication with community members, business partners, and government agencies.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, site visits, and events related to economic development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
