Here's what we do… Quick Scrap Metal sources and processes recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals across Ontario and ensure they do not end up in a landfill or go to waste. Our recycling stream ensures that all the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that enter our yards will create something new again!
Here's where you come in… As Quick Scrap continues to grow, we are looking for passionate people to join our Operations team. As a Scale Operator, you will be the first point of contact to our internal and external customers and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and administrative duties associated with operation of the inbound and outbound truck scale. You will be responsible for weighing, grading, and processing incoming and outgoing scrap metal at the yard. This role requires attention to detail, knowledge of various scrap materials, and basic computer proficiency to ensure accurate documentation and inventory control. The operator may also support yard operations by operating a forklift as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Scrap Metal Handling:
Identify and grade various types of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.
Inspect materials for quality, contamination, or prohibited items.
Communicate clearly with customers, drivers, and yard staff.
Weighing & Documentation:
Accurately operate scale systems to weigh incoming/outgoing loads.
Record weights, grades, and relevant details in the computer system (Excel/Word or specialized software).
Issue tickets and maintain records for compliance and internal tracking.
Equipment Operation:
Operate forklifts safely to move materials within the yard.
Ensure equipment is maintained and operated in accordance with safety standards.
Administrative Support:
Use basic computer tools (Excel, Word) to manage data and generate reports.
Collaborate with operations and accounting teams for billing and record-keeping.
Requirements:
Previous experience in scrap metal grading or handling preferred.
Strong knowledge of different scrap metal types and industry standards.
Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Valid forklift operator license and safe operating record.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work outdoors and in a physically demanding environment.
