We are seeking hard working, motivated, and independent employees for the position of Canola Doubled Haploid Production Lab Technician – in Canola Doubled Haploid Production Lab located in Caledon, Ontario. Canola is a high-quality rapeseed used especially for its "healthy" oil and one of the major oilseed crops in Canada and Europe. The successful candidate will be part of a successful and motivated multi-disciplinary group involved in canola improvement. This position will be involved primarily in canola doubled haploid (DH) production activities to regenerate doubled haploid plants from isolated immature pollens.

· Grow DH donor plants in growth rooms and sample tissue.

· Transfer and culture embryos for shoot regeneration.

· Subculture shoots for plantlet regeneration and transfer to soil.

· Sample tissue for ploidy analysis.

· Collect tissue samples from plantlets for molecular characterization.

· Record research and production data.

· Assist with miscellaneous tasks such as cleaning, handling, autoclaving, packaging, and storing laboratory materials.

The ideal candidate would possess the ability to work under minimal supervision after an initial training period to achieve the research and production goals in a team environment. Good aseptic technique and attention to details are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and verbal communication skills is preferred.
Education and Experiences:

· Plant Cell Biology

· Molecular Biology and Genetics

· Biochemistry

· Biological Engineering

· Horticulture and agriculture related programs

· Grow plants, take samples and send for analysis

· Must have lab experience (schooling okay)

· Role is part research and part lab tasks

· Must be okay with repetitive tasks, willing to learn, have a positive attitude

· Training is 1 month, though most can start working 1:1 after 2 weeks.
