As a Business Development Manager at Van-Kam Freightways in Northern BC, you'll be the face of our brand - out in the field, uncovering new business opportunities and turning conversations into long-term partnerships. About Us:

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.

What you will do:

  • Develop and grow customer relationships by acquiring new clients and strengthening existing partnerships.
  • Lead generation and qualification: Proactively identify potential customers through initial calls, emails, referrals, and networking. Quality leads through initial outreach and discovery.
  • Account management: Maintain consistent communication with existing clients to ensure satisfaction, encourage repeat business, and identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling.
  • Customer support: Respond to client inquiries via phone or email, resolve concerns promptly, and recommend solutions that support long-term success.
  • Opportunity Management: Drive new business growth by identifying and advancing opportunities that contribute to the long-term success of the company.
  • CRM and administrative tasks: Maintain detailed and up-to-date records of all customer interactions, leads, opportunities, and follow-ups in the CRM system. Complete daily admin tasks accurately.
  • Team collaboration: Work closely with internal departments and pass on leads when appropriate to ensure customer needs are met efficiently.
  • Cross-functional relationship building: Establish strong working relationships with teams such as operations, customer service, and logistics to support a seamless client experience.
  • Other duties as assigned: Be flexible and open to taking on new projects or responsibilities that support the team's success and business goals.

What you bring to the table:
  • Minimum 2-4 years of proven sales experience, preferably in a B2B environment.
  • A successful track record of closing sales in person
  • A disciplined and persistent follow-up style that keeps opportunities moving forward
  • A creative and solutions-oriented mindset with a “find-a-way” attitude
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build rapport quickly
  • The emotional intelligence to read the room and tailor your approach to each customer or situation
  • A self-starter mentality, you take ownership of your goals, your territory, and your success
  • A collaborative, team-first approach—you're not afraid to ask for help or offer it
  • Willingness to travel regularly within your assigned territory (triangle between 100 Mile, Prince Rupert, and Fort St. John)
